Cutting is a form of self-mutilation and generally refers to cuts made on the arms, legs, or other body parts, with a sharp object. Cutting may be done for a wide variety of reasons. Cutting may be used to help relieve anxiety, to “feel” something for students that describe feeling numb, to express anger or self-hate, or as a dysfunctional coping method.
