  • What I have learned: According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of ADHD m ay include: Difficulty paying attention, frequent daydreaming, struggle to follow instructions, poor organization, forgetfulness, difficulty completing necessary tasks such as schoolwork or chores, easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, trouble remaining seated, talking excessively, frequently interrupts others, difficulty waiting his/her turn (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children.   • What I have learned: The exact cause is not yet known, but ADHD appears to run in families, suggesting that it is genetic (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. (n.d.).   • What I have learned: While there is no known cure for ADHD, it can be treated.  The 2 main forms of treatment for someone with ADHD are medication and behavioral therapy.  Stimulants are the most commonly prescribed medications for ADHD, including methylphenidate, dextroamphetamine, dextroamphetamine-amphetamine, and lisdexamphetamine.  (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children.   • What I have learned: When dealing with students or individuals with ADHD, it is important to maintain a positive attitude and immediately reinforce good behavior with sincere praise (Teaching Students with ADD / ADHD.   • What I have learned: When dealing with students or individuals with ADHD, don’t assume that the student is lazy or does not care. Remember that ADHD is a neurological disorder which the student cannot help. Don’t give up on the student.  They may be as frustrated with themselves and their inattentiveness as you are, and whether or not you believe in them might make a huge difference.
