Technical Honors Diploma (Indiana)

The Technical Honors Diploma is also known as the Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma.  Students who earn this diploma still meet the requirements for the Core 40 diploma, in addition to requirements specific to the Core 40 with Technical Honors diploma.

Gossip and Rumors

Gossip is an unfortunate reality in our schools and in our students' lives.  Gossip in the school community can be demoralizing and can have far-reaching individual and whole community consequences.  Helping students to deal with gossip and to relate to each other in developmentally appropriate and respectful ways can challenge even the most competent school counselor. 

Goal Setting

Goal setting is just as important for students as it is for educators.  Counselors may be asked to create SMART goals for themselves and/or their departments, but teaching students a process for goals setting and goal achievement is also important. 

Gifted & Talented (see High Ability)

"Gifted and Talented" is a term that applies to children who have been identified as being "gifted" in one or more areas. The areas of "giftedness" addressed in state definition: Intellectually Gifted, Academically Gifted, Specific academic areas, Leadership, Performing/Visual Arts, Creatively Gifted.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, commonly referred to as Section 504, is a federal civil rights law that protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination on the basis of disability.

Free & Reduced Lunch

"Free & Reduced Lunch" refers to the program that provides no-cost or reduced-cost school meals and milk to eligible students. To be eligible for free and reduced, families must complete an application and meet income guidelines and household size restrictions.

Four Year Plans

A four-year plan refers to the outline of courses that a high school student will take to complete the necessary requirements for high school graduation and their diploma choice. 

Foster Care

Foster Care provides a safe, nurturing, stable, and temporary environment for children who can no longer remain in their own homes due to the risk of abuse or neglect.  This care may be provided by unlicensed or licensed relatives, as well as licensed non-relative foster parents.
