Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia nervosa is a serious, potentially life-threatening eating disorder characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss.

Eating Disorders & Body Image

Eating disorders -- such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder – include extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues. Eating disorders are serious emotional and physical problems that can have life-threatening consequences for females and males

Dual Credits

Dual credit is the term given to courses in which high school students have the opportunity to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. Dual Credit courses can be taken at your high school, at a college campus, or through online courses. Dual Credit courses can be taught by credentialed high school teachers or college faculty and is offered by both state and independent (private, regionally accredited) colleges and universities.

Drugs/Drug Abuse

Drug abuse and addiction is a complicated topic with many causal factors. Professional help is always advised when the use of drugs or alcohol is impeding the functioning of one of your students.

Divorce

Although divorce rates are currently at a 40-year low, it is an issue that continues to impact many of our students on a daily basis. In addition, many of our students are living in single-parent homes where their parents were never married and even more are living with a grandparent or other relative. All of this simply means that we must be extremely sensitive and mindful when we talk about family dynamics with our students.

Diversity

One of our most important jobs is to teach our students to work and live in a global economy. This means teaching them to respect people across all differences (race, culture, socio-economic status, gender identity, gender orientation, age, ability/disability, etc.).

Discipline

While discipline is not an appropriate task for a school counselor, we have insights and knowledge that are extremely helpful and can inform discipline procedures in schools. We have an obligation to advocate for policies that consider the whole child and are trauma informed.

Diploma Requirements

There are 4 diploma choices for students in Indiana: the General Diploma, the Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors or Core 40 with Technical Honors.  See also Graduation.
